Train of Thought is an institution dedicated to instructing children in the rules, discipline, and strategic thinking of chess within a school setting. The organization leverages the game of chess to positively transform the lives of students. Since its founding in 2006, the program has been sharing its enthusiasm and appreciation for chess.
This role presents a chance to positively influence students and their families by teaching chess. We welcome applicants with either formal teaching experience or simply a strong passion for working with children. We seek mentors capable of inspiring, educating, and assisting children in unlocking their full potential. Prior chess knowledge is not necessary; a sincere commitment to making a meaningful difference in children\'s lives is essential.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor\'s Degree is preferred but not mandatory.
- Teaching experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Chess experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- A strong commitment to motivating and elevating the academic success of historically underserved student populations is required.
- Solid work ethic and the capability to work independently or collaboratively within a team are required.
- The ability to learn and instruct using our established curriculum and proven methodologies for chess improvement is required.
- A successful background check is required.
- Reliable personal transportation is required.
Job Type: Part-time position, involving 20 to 35 hours per week.
Compensation: The training rate is $18 per hour. The standard salary rate is $25 per hour.
Available Shifts: Work hours are scheduled from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Chess Experience: Candidates must be familiar with the fundamental rules of chess.
Instruction takes place at multiple elementary schools located in the following areas: Los Angeles, Gardena, and Compton.
