Temporary Remote Litigation Docket Specialist (Must Reside in California or New York)
A temporary position is available for a Litigation Docket Specialist with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. This four-month assignment entails the primary responsibility of overseeing and updating the legal docketing system. The specialist will be tasked with accurately reviewing court deadlines, collaborating closely with legal teams to examine filings, tracking rules and procedures, and maintaining the docket database. Additional duties include providing extensive administrative and filing assistance, supporting departmental projects and initiatives, and managing various docketing and calendaring activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Compute, document, and calendar litigation-related deadlines for state and federal courts, arbitrations, and mediations, while tracking communications and reports.
- Examine court filings, orders, and notices to extract critical dates and stipulations; input case details, activities, and deadlines into the docket system.
- Uphold adherence to court regulations, local protocols, and firm policies concerning docket management.
- Liaise and coordinate with case teams to verify court deadlines and instructions; promptly communicate any deadline changes or updates.
- Conduct case monitoring and research using online tools, and supply information related to court filing and service procedures.
- Provide timely and professional responses to inquiries from attorneys and staff regarding calendared dates, as well as agency and court rules and processes.
- Produce calendar and docket reports or queries for case teams, and generate customized docket reports as needed.
- Aid in the service and filing of court documents.
- Perform electronic filing in Federal, State, and Appellate Courts.
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of departmental policies, procedures, and innovative projects.
Qualifications and Skills
A Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent combination of training and legal experience is mandatory. Candidates must possess a solid understanding of Illinois Civil Practice Law and Rules, along with the Federal Rules of Civil and Appellate Procedure, and be capable of navigating other sets of rules and procedures. Proficiency in docketing software such as eDockets, CompuLaw, or CourtAlert for calendaring and reporting is required. Familiarity with various court websites, docket search platforms, and document retrieval databases like PACER, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and File & ServeXpress is essential. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) are necessary. The role demands strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-oriented setting, excellent communication, time management, and organizational capabilities, as well as collaborative skills and adaptability to evolving departmental procedures.
Standard working hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with occasional overtime and travel to local courts and agencies required. The hourly compensation range is $34 to $37.
