The hourly wage for this role ranges from $25.00 to $27.28. Final compensation will be aligned with the candidate\'s experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Prevention Training Specialist for the CDC Black MSM Program will be responsible for designing, executing, monitoring, and assessing HIV testing and counseling services tailored for Black men who have sex with men (MSM) between the ages of 18 and 39. Duties include delivering virtual, on-site, and field-based HIV testing and counseling, as well as providing navigation and linkage to care for those newly diagnosed. The specialist will also coordinate referrals for STI screening and treatment, PrEP and PEP services, manage the distribution of at-home HIV test kits, and supervise a social marketing initiative aimed at increasing awareness and enrollment into sexual health programs. A critical component of the role involves the precise entry and upkeep of HIV testing data in the CDC database to uphold public health compliance. The Prevention Training Specialist will strive to diminish health inequities, enhance care accessibility, and cultivate a culturally aware, encouraging setting for Black MSM to advance community health outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • HIV Testing and Counseling: Conduct virtual HIV testing and counseling utilizing the OraQuick at-home HIV test kit, and perform on-site HIV testing with the Insti Rapid HIV test. Adhere to established protocols and ensure precise documentation.
  • Navigation and Linkage to Care: Assist newly diagnosed individuals by linking them to medical care, treatment, and supportive services. Refer participants to the Annex clinic for STI testing, treatment, and PrEP or PEP services.
  • Data Entry and Management: Precisely enter and monitor HIV testing data within the CDC database, guaranteeing data integrity, consistency, and confidentiality. Keep thorough records in accordance with program and public health standards.
  • Resource Distribution: Supervise the mailing and distribution of Swab & Chill at-home HIV test kits. Monitor inventory and ensure prompt delivery to participants.
  • Social Marketing and Outreach: Create and execute a marketing plan to boost awareness and participation in HIV testing and sexual health services. Employ social media and community outreach to recruit participants.
  • Group Facilitation: Lead and manage structured focus group discussions with 12 to 15 Black men who have sex with men (MSM), aged 18 to 39. These discussions will delve into subjects concerning sexual health, wellness, and community-specific experiences relevant to the population.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Partner closely with the Program Coordinator and evaluation team to advance program goals, preserve data accuracy, and enhance service provision.
  • Professionalism and Confidentiality: Follow HIPAA regulations and confidentiality procedures when managing participant information to ensure privacy and maintain trust.
  • Timeliness and Adaptability: Exhibit effective time management by meeting deadlines, responding to participant needs, and adjusting to shifting program demands.
  • Engagement Strategies: Build connections within the Black MSM community to promote involvement in HIV testing and biomedical prevention services.

REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience:

  • An Associate’s degree in a human services discipline or a minimum of two years of experience in HIV prevention, health education, or a comparable field.
  • At least one year of direct experience and/or active involvement within the Black MSM community.
  • Holding an HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) certification from the Department of HIV and STD Programs (DHSP) is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in developing social marketing campaigns.
  • Experience in HIV prevention and health education or health promotion.
  • Nonprofit work experience is preferred; specialized training or background in HIV/AIDS-related matters and other sexual health education areas is also preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • HIV prevention techniques, sexual health, and STI screening and treatment.
  • Biomedical HIV prevention approaches, including PrEP, PEP, DoxyPEP, and TasP.
  • Public health guidelines, harm reduction principles, and the HIV testing certification procedure.
  • Health inequities impacting Black MSM communities, including obstacles to healthcare access.
  • Fundamentals of social marketing and virtual community engagement platforms.

Ability to:

  • Work autonomously while effectively handling multiple responsibilities.
  • Perform accurate data entry and administer public health tracking databases.
  • Manage sensitive information with professionalism, confidentiality, and tact.
  • Interact with individuals in a culturally sensitive and supportive fashion.
  • Communicate clearly both in writing and verbally, including delivering group presentations.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is mainly an office-based role that involves only infrequent bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting or moving office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Daily tasks necessitate the use of a personal computer for entering, viewing, and modifying text and graphics both on-screen and on paper.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must hold a valid California driver’s license; provide evidence of automobile liability insurance; and have access to a personal vehicle for work-related activities.
