Under the direction of a Shift Supervisor or Watch Commander, the DPS Patrol Officer serves as a full-time, uniformed, and unarmed staff member dedicated to ensuring a protected and secure campus atmosphere for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Loyola Marymount University (LMU). This role involves conducting patrols of the university grounds and facilities, including University Hall.
Work Schedule Requirements
As a member of the Department of Public Safety, you will be required to work during specified peak periods and designated days. These times, which may last for several weeks during high-demand seasons like summer, are essential for meeting operational and staffing obligations. During these intervals, staff must be available for assignment and are not permitted to request time away. Furthermore, you may be called to duty on your scheduled days off, for which you will receive suitable additional pay.
This role operates on an alternative work schedule, specifically a 4/10 shift pattern consisting of four ten-hour days per week.

Position-Specific Responsibilities
- Working under the direct supervision of a Shift Supervisor or Watch Commander, the Patrol Officer will primarily conduct field duties, including uniformed patrols or assigned posts. Key tasks involve performing building security checks, foot and vehicle patrols, responding to incidents, and completing written reports.
- Answer calls for assistance, emergencies, ongoing incidents, and requests for service.
- Respond to activated alarms for emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, medical situations, burglaries, and door security issues. Immediately notify the DPS communications officer and the on-duty DPS Watch Commander of any emergency.
- Prepare daily activity reports, documenting any equipment irregularities, property damage, or incidents reported to the DPS University Hall office.
- Generate detailed incident reports.
- Interact with visitors, students, and staff to maintain order and protect property. Advise individuals of any infractions of LMU regulations.
- Deliver excellent customer service in line with established LMU standards. Provide escort or access services as per policy when requested.
- Conduct patrols of the premises to prevent and identify signs of unauthorized entry, malfunctioning equipment, and safety hazards. Secure doors, gates, and windows during off-hours.
- Must be available to report to work or extend beyond a scheduled shift, work overtime with little or no advance notice, work all shifts including rotating shifts, and work on weekends, holidays, during closures, for special events, and during designated peak periods.
- Fulfill other assigned duties as required.

Required Qualifications
- Typically a High School Diploma is required. The individual in this position is expected to continually update their knowledge, skills, and abilities to stay informed of changes in regulations and policies.
- Must possess and maintain a current California Guard Card and a valid California Driver’s License. Must obtain and maintain current CPR/First-Aid & AED certifications and PR24 Baton certification within six months from the date of hire.
- A valid California driver\'s license is required. Must maintain a driving record deemed \"satisfactory\" according to DMV records.
- This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act.
- This position is designated as a Mandatory Reporter by university policy.
- This position is required to wear an approved duty uniform and utility belt and must adhere to a uniform and grooming standards policy.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers.

Hiring Salary
$22.26 per hour. This position is non-exempt.
Salary Range
$22.26 to $26.68 per hour. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
