An established automotive shop located in Hawthorne is seeking a skilled and seasoned automotive painter. Applicants must possess a minimum of fifteen years of professional experience. The position requires availability to work from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Proficiency in English and a valid California Driver\'s License are mandatory.

JOB SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in auto body repair, painting, and restoration. They must be capable of producing high-quality workmanship within a dynamic, fast-paced setting. Key responsibilities include preparing vehicles for paint application, applying paints and finishes, and upholding the utmost standards of quality.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting by sanding, masking, and cleaning.
  • Apply primer, base coats, clear coats, and final finishes.
  • Mix and tint paints to achieve precise color matches, ensuring all formulations, preparations, top coating, and curing processes adhere to OEM-recommended standards for proper application sequence, timing, and material usage.
  • Perform buffing, polishing, and detailing to deliver a perfect finish.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to complete repairs within designated timeframes.
  • Provide assistance with preparatory work as needed.
  • Verify that all painting tasks are finished, all masking materials are removed, and any components disassembled for painting are reassembled before returning the vehicle to the body technician.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the paint area, including the prep station, paint booth, and paint mixing/storage rooms, and ensure all refinishing products are stored correctly.
  • Perform general maintenance on paint booths.
  • Assist with vehicle reassembly, including reinstalling final moldings, trim, and detail pieces.
  • Use all required safety equipment and follow proper refinishing procedures in compliance with OSHA and shop safety guidelines. This includes wearing respirators, eye and skin protection, and handling and disposing of hazardous waste appropriately.
  • Participate in daily release meetings.
  • Fulfill any other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous professional experience in automotive painting and the refinishing process is essential.
  • Must comply with all regulatory guidelines for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and organized workspace.
  • Ability to perform other related duties as required.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and collaborate effectively with others.

Essential physical demands for this role include:

  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, and pull.
